Non-Equine Patients

Castrating calves, bangs vaccines, deworming and vaccinating cattle…I’ve done more work with cattle in the last week than I think I did throughout all of vet school. On the small ruminant side of things, we’ve seen goats for lacerations, pneumonia, pyometria, hoof-trimming, mastitis and we’ve even ultrasounded a couple sheep to diagnose pregnancies. Although I signed up for an equine practice, it really has evolved into quite the mixed practice position. I’ve never been a big fan of working with cattle, or carried thoughts of it far into the future…and that opinion hasn’t changed much. But the small ruminant work, I don’t mind at all. Plus, there’s a certain level of satisfaction that comes with seeing multiple species. Though, the somewhat unfamiliar territory leaves me boggled at times. Yet more things to add to the “Look-up list.”

After graduating from vet school in 2015 and completing a year long equine internship, I entered private practice as an equine ambulatory veterinarian. Like most people in the veterinary field, I have respect and compassion towards all species, with a passion for horses. My work-life balance includes roadtripping, hiking, succulents, aquariums and is made complete by my wonderful pets.
